Mining
Our Mining practice combines expertise across every facet of the mining industry –including in-house experience at major mining companies, OECD advisory work, and strategic counsel to mining majors, governments, and communities– making NyC uniquely positioned to support clients from cradle to closure.
The practice is led by Juan Biset, former Undersecretary of Mining Policy and Mining Sustainability of Argentina. He has also served as Secretary of the Federal Mining Council (COFEMIN) and of the Administrative Commission of the Mining Integration and Complementation Treaty between Argentina and Chile, the bilateral framework governing cross-border mining projects between the two countries and currently serves as outside consultant to the OECD on mining matters.
This experience is complemented by a team drawn from our Energy and Natural Resources, Project Finance, Infrastructure, Environment, Tax, Foreign Trade, and Labor practice groups. Since the early 1990s, our team has advised sponsors and companies on world-class mining projects in Argentina, including Minera Alumbrera and Cerro Vanguardia, building deep expertise across the exploration, construction, and operating phases of large-scale projects.
Argentina’s mining sector has entered a new investment cycle, driven by the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI), the country’s position within the Lithium Triangle, and renewed international interest in the Andes copper corridor. Our team has a well-rounded understanding of the sector and is positioned to support clients navigating not just the regulatory and commercial landscape, but also the sustainability, community engagement, and government relations aspects of mining projects.
